Cadillac Fairview announces a $52M investment  to revitalize Carrefour Laval and its food court

Laval, September 17, 2008 – Carrefour Laval customers will soon enjoy a more modern, high-design environment that will bring elegance and luxury to the shopping experience! Today, Cadillac Fairview announced a $52M investment to revitalize one of its flagship properties in North America. The renovation project, starting this week and scheduled for completion by fall 2009, will be executed in two phases: the first will relocate and renew the food court with the addition of new retailers, and the second will focus on harmonizing the common areas with the garden court inaugurated in 2002.

“The design, inspired by the urban trend seen in shopping centres of leading international cities, was developed by Cadillac Fairview’s architects and will be executed by local entrepreneurs,” says Manon Parisien, Vice-President, Eastern Canada Portfolio for the Cadillac Fairview Corporation. “We are always on a quest for innovative approaches to offer consumers a place where fashion, good taste and quality of life converge.”

The two existing food courts will be merged into a modern courtyard open to the outside through generous skylight panels to create the feeling of a contemporary market square.  The new food court, scheduled to open in the fall of 2009, will seat 1,200 people, almost 25% more than today, and will also include a trendy bistro.

Sophisticated and urban are the words that describe the expanded food court, which will feature conventional offerings as well as more refined, health-conscious and cosmopolitan alternatives. With sushi, “fusion cuisine” and distinctive menus, customers will have a wide variety of meal options to choose from.

In the spirit of a vibrant public market, the new courtyard will also delight epicurean customers with gourmet treats such as hand-made chocolates, fine pastries, freshly baked breads-and-Italian-ice-cream.
Phase I — the relocation of the food courts — will begin this week and will be completed by fall 2009. Phase II — the complete renovation of Carrefour Laval — is scheduled to begin in the spring of 2009 and will be terminated by the fall. The second phase includes mall enhancements and upgraded amenities such as new flooring, ceilings, lighting and soft seating areas. What’s more, the construction schedule has been planned to minimize inconvenience for customers.
